Cancer care costs can feel overwhelming. The good news: several schemes and organisations can help. Here is where to start.
1. Government schemes
- Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY: health cover up to ₹5 lakh per family per year at empanelled hospitals. Check eligibility at the official PM-JAY site or a hospital Arogya Mitra desk.
- Rashtriya Arogya Nidhi (RAN) / Health Minister’s Cancer Patient Fund: one-time help for BPL patients treated at government hospitals.
- Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) and Chief Minister relief funds: apply through official portals or your MP/MLA office.
- State schemes (e.g. MJPJAY Maharashtra, CMCHIS Tamil Nadu, Aarogyasri Telangana/AP).
2. NGO and hospital support
Many hospitals have social-work desks and charity beds. NGOs offer grants, medicines, travel and stay support. Love Heals Cancer can guide you to the right ones — call +91 99307 09000.
3. Crowdfunding
Platforms such as Ketto, Milaap and ImpactGuru let families raise funds. Use clear photos, the doctor’s cost estimate and regular updates.
4. Insurance and employer help
Check existing health policies, critical-illness riders, ESIC/CGHS cover and employer assistance programmes.
Documents usually needed
Diagnosis report, doctor’s cost estimate on letterhead, income certificate, Aadhaar, ration card, bank details, photographs.
