When a family searches for breast cancer treatment in Varanasi, they usually hold a new ultrasound or biopsy report and a long list of fears. This patient guide explains treatment options in plain language, how to choose a hospital calmly, and the questions that protect you in the first OPD. Hindi searches often use वाराणसी में स्तन कैंसर का इलाज, ब्रेस्ट कैंसर ट्रीटमेंट वाराणसी or स्तन कैंसर सर्जरी वाराणसी — the checklist below works for all of them.

Breast cancer care is rarely one step. Most plans combine imaging and biopsy, receptor tests (ER, PR, HER2), surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone tablets when receptors are positive, and HER2-targeted medicine when HER2 is positive. Immunotherapy is only for selected cases after biomarker tests. A good team explains the order — chemo before surgery for a large lump, or radiation after breast-conserving surgery — so you are not carrying files between three buildings.
Bring earlier reports; a careful second look at the biopsy and scans often saves repeat tests.
Treatment options explained for families
Surgery
Surgery removes the tumour and usually checks lymph nodes in the armpit. Options include breast-conserving surgery (only the lump with a margin of healthy tissue, usually followed by radiation) and mastectomy (removal of the whole breast). Reconstruction of breast shape can be discussed with suitable patients. At ZenHeal Varanasi, breast cancer surgery is performed by Dr Pritesh Rajeev Singh, Surgical Oncologist (MCh Surgical Oncology, Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute; 15+ years), whose listed focus areas include breast cancer surgery and reconstruction after cancer surgery. Anaesthesia and ICU support include Dr Maithili Thakur.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy may shrink a larger tumour before surgery, or lower recurrence risk after surgery. Many regimens run in a day-care unit. Ask who checks blood counts before each cycle, which side effects need an urgent call (for example fever ≥100.4°F / 38°C), and whether fertility preservation matters. Hindi: वाराणसी में कीमोथेरेपी डे-केयर.
Radiotherapy
Radiotherapy treats the breast or chest wall and sometimes lymph-node areas. It is often advised after breast-conserving surgery, and after mastectomy when tumours are larger or nodes are involved. ZenHeal’s public pages state that radiotherapy is offered at both Varanasi and Prayagraj campuses with an AERB licence. At Varanasi, radiation and systemic planning is led by Dr Amit Kumar Pathak, Radiation Oncologist and Chemotherapist (MD Radiotherapy, IMS BHU; 21+ years). Ask how many sessions are planned and about skin care at home.
Hormone therapy and targeted therapy
If the biopsy is ER or PR positive, hormone tablets are usually taken for several years. If HER2 is positive, HER2-targeted medicine is added. Ask for the printed IHC receptor report. Immunotherapy and other targeted drugs are only for selected patients after further tests.
Ayushman Bharat and practical support
Love Heals Cancer does not publish price lists. Verify that ZenHeal accepts Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY) for eligible patients and ask the help desk about cashless insurance. Bring your card early. See financial support and family stay near the hospital.

Print or screenshot this checklist. Score every centre you visit — government or private — the same way:
- Surgical oncologist for breast surgery: not only a general surgeon who “also does lumps”.
- Receptor testing: ER, PR and HER2 reported on the biopsy before major drug decisions.
- Day-care chemotherapy: trained nurses, pre-cycle CBC checks, reaction medicines ready.
- Radiotherapy pathway: on the same campus or clearly explained with records staying with one team.
- ICU and emergency: what happens at night if fever or breathlessness starts after chemo.
- Ayushman / insurance desk: eligibility checked before the first bill.
- Written plan: drug names, sequence of surgery–chemo–radiation, and follow-up calendar.
- Language and time: explanation in Hindi or English without rushing; second opinions welcomed.
Red flags: guaranteed cure slogans, pressure to start chemotherapy the same hour without full reports, refusal to share drug names, or no after-hours contact for fever.
Questions to ask in the first breast cancer visit
About the disease
- What type of breast cancer is it, and what are my ER, PR and HER2 results?
- What stage is it, and do I need CT, PET-CT or a bone scan to check for spread?
- Has the biopsy been reviewed here, or should we send slides for a second pathology look?
About the treatment plan
- Can I have breast-conserving surgery, or is mastectomy advised — and why?
- Will chemotherapy come before or after surgery?
- Will I need radiotherapy, and roughly how many sessions?
- If hormone or HER2 medicines are needed, for how long?
- What is the goal for my stage — cure, control, or comfort?
About safety, money and home care
- Which side effects need an immediate call?
- Which arm should avoid injections or blood-pressure cuffs after node surgery?
- What will Ayushman Bharat or my insurance likely cover in this plan?
- Should my daughters or sisters be screened, or consider genetic counselling?

Frequently asked questions
What are the main breast cancer treatment options in Varanasi?
Common options are surgery (breast-conserving surgery or mastectomy), chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy and HER2-targeted therapy when receptor tests support them. The order depends on stage and biopsy results. Ask for a written plan in simple Hindi or English.
Is radiotherapy for breast cancer available in Varanasi?
Yes. Public pages for ZenHeal Cancer Hospital state that radiotherapy is offered at both the Varanasi and Prayagraj campuses with an AERB licence. Radiation is often advised after breast-conserving surgery, and after mastectomy when tumours are larger or lymph nodes are involved.
Which doctors see breast cancer patients at ZenHeal Varanasi?
Verified profiles list Dr Pritesh Rajeev Singh (Surgical Oncologist, MCh Surgical Oncology) for breast cancer surgery, and Dr Amit Kumar Pathak (Radiation Oncologist and Chemotherapist, MD Radiotherapy, IMS BHU) for radiation and systemic therapy planning. Cross-check on zenhealcancer.com/doctors before you book.
Does every breast lump mean cancer?
No. Many lumps are not cancer, especially in younger women. Every new lump, dimpling, nipple change or bloody discharge still needs a clinical exam, and often an ultrasound or mammogram and sometimes a biopsy.
Will I always lose the whole breast?
Not always. Depending on tumour size, position and breast size, breast-conserving surgery may be possible, usually followed by radiotherapy. Where mastectomy is needed, reconstruction can be discussed with suitable patients.
Is Ayushman Bharat accepted for breast cancer treatment?
ZenHeal states that Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY) is accepted for eligible patients, including many Bihar card holders. Bring your Ayushman card and Aadhaar; ask the help desk to check package coverage before admission so there are no surprises.
How do I choose a hospital for breast cancer treatment in Varanasi?
Check for a surgical oncologist who does breast surgery, day-care chemotherapy, radiotherapy on campus or clearly explained, receptor testing (ER/PR/HER2), a 24×7 ICU pathway, Ayushman or insurance support, and doctors who give a written plan. A second opinion is reasonable if you feel rushed.
What should I bring to the first visit?
Bring biopsy reports and slides/blocks if available, mammogram or ultrasound films, CT/PET-CT CDs, blood reports, Aadhaar, Ayushman or insurance card, and a list of current medicines. Share reports on WhatsApp before travel when possible.
