For patients and caregivers seeking practical support in Varanasi and surrounding districts. If paying for cancer care is becoming difficult, start with the hospital treating you. Ask which assistance routes apply to your treatment, who checks the application, and what you need to prepare. Being directed to a programme is not the same as receiving an award.

Start with Medical Social Services at MPMMCC
The official Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Centre website describes patient assessment for welfare schemes and support referrals through Medical Social Services. Its department page lists the desk at RT Building, Ground Floor, telephone 0542 6917700 and email msw.mpmmcc@tmc.gov.in. Published hours are Monday–Friday, 9 am–5 pm, and Saturday, 9 am–2 pm; Sunday is listed as closed. Confirm the desk and hours before travelling.
The centre’s ancillary-services page also lists financial assistance, accommodation and railway-concession support. These are services to ask about, not a guarantee of a grant, available room or concession for every patient. If you receive care elsewhere, start with that hospital’s patient-welfare or social-work desk instead.
A useful first conversation
- Explain the immediate difficulty: a planned test, treatment bill, medicine, travel or accommodation. Ask which department can assess that need.
- Ask whether you need a hospital registration number or referral before the assessment, and whether the patient must attend.
- Request the current document checklist and the correct submission channel. Ask which documents need copies, originals or certification.
- Ask who handles the next step and how you will receive an acknowledgement. Keep the name of the desk, date and reference number.
A simple request is: “We are worried about paying for the proposed treatment. Could someone assess the assistance options and tell us the documents and next step?”
Prepare a folder, not a public appeal with private records
It can help to have the diagnosis summary, proposed treatment plan, hospital registration details and a written estimate available, alongside identity, residence, income or family documents already held. This is a preparation list, not the hospital’s verified application checklist. Obtain the programme-specific list before paying for certificates or making another journey. Do not post Aadhaar numbers, reports or bank details in public comments or unverified messaging groups.
Use our written treatment-estimate guide to separate the planned treatment from tests, medicines, travel and other costs. Ask the team what may change as treatment progresses.
Check state and national options without assuming cover
Our financial-support directory includes Uttar Pradesh and national routes. Choose Uttar Pradesh, then discuss relevant entries with the hospital. For Ayushman-related support, ask the scheme desk to check the patient, hospital, proposed package and any required approval separately. A card or a directory listing does not mean every bill is covered.
The financial-help first-steps guide explains the broader process. Do not assume that several schemes can be added together; ask the responsible desk about their rules.
If you are travelling from a surrounding district
Before booking, confirm the appointment, hospital campus, documents and whether an initial enquiry can be handled by phone. Ask about accommodation eligibility, current availability, charges and whether a caregiver can stay. For travel concessions, ask who issues the relevant certification and whether it applies to your journey. Arrange clinical travel advice with the treating team; this guide does not decide whether travel is medically safe.
Track four different stages
- Guidance received: someone explained possible routes.
- Application submitted: the responsible office acknowledged your documents.
- Approval received: you have a decision stating what is authorised and any conditions.
- Assistance received: the bill adjustment, service or payment has actually been provided.
Ask when to follow up and what remains missing. Tell the treating team promptly if cost could delay care. Do not postpone urgent medical attention while waiting for financial approval.
What this guide does not establish
LHC is sharing independently sourced navigation information. This page does not establish an LHC branch in Varanasi, a partnership with the named hospital, or an entitlement to free care. The hospital or programme makes eligibility and assistance decisions.
